Designs
Any combination of lines and colours or both and any three – dimensional form whether or not associated with colours, if it is intended by the creator to be used as a model or pattern to be multiplied by industrial process and is not intended solely to obtain technical result.

The Procedure for Design Applications:
  • Written request with applicants full name and address.
  • A specimen of the design.
  • An indication of the kind of product for which the design will be used.
  • A declaration.
  • Signed Power of Attorney.
  • Payment of prescribed fee.
  • Other matters as may be required by the Registrar.
Subsequently the Design application is subjected to an examination process conducted by the Registrar of Designs.

Grant of Design:
Once satisfied that the Design application is in conformity with all requirements the registration Certificate is issued, which states:
  • The relevant number.
  • Name and domicile of the registered owner.
  • Dates of the design application and grant.
  • Number and date of application where priority is claimed.
  • Reproduction or representation of the design and an indication of the kind or class of products for which it will be used.
  • Copy of specifications and a copy of relevant drawings and plans if any.

Rights Conferred by the Grant:
The right to preclude any other from doing the following:
  1. Reproducing the design in the manufacture of a product.
  2. Importing, selling or utilizing for commercial purposes a product reproducing the design.
  3. Holding such a product for the purpose of selling it or of utilizing it for commercial purpose.

  • Filing and prosecuting of Design applications.
  • Oppositions.
  • Attending to recording of Assignment, Merger, Change of Name or Address.
  • Attending to licensing and recordals.
  • Undertaking and payment of renewals.
  • Watching services.
  • Litigation support and general advisory.

G.R.F. Patent services apply to the following regional schemes.
OAPI (African Intellectual Property Organization): Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
